North Star welcomes residents of Darlington Housing Association - Find out more

We are thrilled to have been awarded £930,000 in funding to go towards energy efficiency improvement works for 85 North Star properties across our stock.

We have been awarded this funding as a result of a successful bid to the Department for Energy Security & Net Zero’s (DESNZ) Warm Homes: Social Housing Fund Wave 3, alongside 22 other social housing providers in the Tees Valley Combined Authority consortium.

This grant funding – matched with North Star’s funds – will be used to deliver a range of energy efficiency improvements to homes, including the installation of Photovoltaic solar panels, loft insulation top-ups, cavity wall insulation and air source heat pumps.

Jason Crews, Director of Assets, Property and Sustainability, says, “We are delighted to receive this funding. It will allow us to take another big step forward to improve the energy efficiency of our homes. These works will help reduce carbon emissions and make a real, tangible difference to our customers by reducing energy bills and improving comfort. This is a key part of our journey to ensure all North Star homes reach EPC C or better by 2028. We are also proud to be working in partnership with others across the region to deliver lasting change.”

These works will be completed in addition to our existing and previous retrofit schemes that were part-funded through Wave 1 and Wave 2 of the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund (SHDF), which was later renamed Warm Homes: Social Housing Fund. In 2023/2024, for example, we invested £815k to decarbonise properties across Teesdale after securing £195k from the fund.
