North Star welcomes residents of Darlington Housing Association - Find out more
On Friday 4th October, Taste of Africa held their annual Black History Month Youth Awards.
This event celebrates the achievements of young black people from across Teesside and the North East and North Star has been a proud supporter since its inception 11 years ago.
North Star’s Head of Engagement and Insight, Peter Locke, and Digital Project Co-ordinator, Afolabi Olaniyi, attended the event, which each year showcases inspirational stories and amazing performances by the talented young people Taste of Africa works with.
This year, Peter was honoured to present the Community Ambassador award to Prince Kevin Ogoo for his positive impact on his community.
As an ambassador for the Taste of Africa charity, Peter was asked to speak about the event’s theme: ‘Coming of Age’. As part of his speech, Peter said: ‘Coming of age is an amazing stage of life where responsibility meets opportunity, freedom, choice and the power to make change happen.’
If Friday night was anything to go by, the young people of Teesside will be at the forefront of positive change for many years to come!
