To celebrate International Older Person’s day, we have been chatting to Allison Alderton, Team Manager of North Stars services to Older People. To watch the full video click here
When visiting Allison and the Supported Team at Aspen Gardens, it is apparent that Allison and the staff are dedicated to making a difference in people’s lives. This is heartwarming to see.
Aspen Gardens in Hardwick has 50 properties in total, including 30 apartments and 20 bungalows; they are all two bedroomed with open plan kitchens, lounge, and wet room.
Aspen Gardens also has a bistro that is open from 8am – 6pm every day. Tenants can have a freshly cooked, nutritious meal a day in the bistro at lunch or tea time. It is an excellent way of helping people connect, preventing isolation and staying healthy.
International Older Persons day will take place on the 1st of October. The focus of this year’s event is to end inequality and change negative narratives and stereotypes involving old age.
Allison and the support team are aiming to bring Residents from across Older Persons Services together for a “Full of Life” fun-packed day.
On the Afternoon of the 1st, Aspen Gardens will be hosting an afternoon of games. Every one of all abilities will be welcome and encouraged to join in.
Regular tenant meetings are held within the Older Person’s service and we ask our tenants what they want. Tenants have said they want to learn how to use i-pads. Some residents have family living overseas, so this would be a fantastic way of them being able to speak to them and be able to see family and loved ones through the screen. North Star ICT department has donated several i-pads to the older person’s service. Staff want to show tenants how fun, exciting and inclusive technology can be and will deliver a session on how to use i-pads to skype, face time and use the internet.
