North Star welcomes residents of Darlington Housing Association - Find out more

Polaris (also called the “North Star”) is a constant in the sky. It’s more than just a single star; it’s a natural beacon that’s been used to navigate for centuries. It provides direction to those who are lost and without any other form of conventional navigation. Stars shine, and we look to them for guidance and inspiration.

Our organisation is full of North Stars. Bright people who sparkle, achieve great things, and rising stars who shatter expectations, raise the bar and are great to be around. To work for us you need to be a North Star.

We are keen to reflect the communities we serve and welcome applicants from a broad range of backgrounds and experience.

We are award-winning, growing, and thriving as a business. We were the first Housing Association in England to be awarded the Investors in People Platinum standard and are proud to hold this accolade.

In 2024 and 2021 we were named UK Employer of the Year in the Investors in People Platinum awards.

If you have any questions about working for North Star, please call 01642 796 323 and speak with Katherine McGough, Director of People.

BOARD TRAINEE PROGRAMME

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

We are seeking applications from people who are interested in joining our two-year Board Training Programme (up to 3 vacancies), which is delivered in partnership with Housing Diversity Network.

These vacancies will be of particular interest to people who have a strong social purpose, are passionate about communities and want to shape and influence our organisation.

HDN campaign - Housing Diversity Network

We welcome applications from people who are committed to learning and developing new skills and have curiosity and open minds. Previous experience and knowledge of housing is not essential. You will be provided with an extensive two-year training and development programme. In return, you will need to demonstrate a commitment to the programme and the organisation’s social purpose.

We are specifically focusing on underrepresentation in our governance structures and are keen to increase the diversity of thought and lived experience on our boards and committees. Therefore, we are interested in applications from disabled people and people from LGBTQ+ communities.
